What is marble gum grouting?

Normal cement grout is porous. It soaks up dirt and mopping water, turns grey or black, and gives your floor a visible grid. Marble gum grouting replaces those joints with a resin-based marble gum, coloured to match your homogeneous tiles. Once it cures, the floor is ground flat and polished in one continuous surface, so the joints blend in and the floor reads as one sheet of polished stone.

Benefits of marble gum on homogeneous tiles

  • Seamless, marble-like look at a fraction of the cost of real marble or new tiles
  • No more black grout lines — marble gum is non-porous and doesn't absorb dirt like cement grout (why grout turns black)
  • Easier to clean — no grooves for dirt to collect in; a mop glides over
  • Polishing included — the whole floor is brought up to a high gloss in the same job
  • No hacking — no debris, no tile replacement, no long renovation

Our 4-step marble gum process

1–2. Old grout prepared, marble gum applied

3. Ground flush once cured

4. Polished to high gloss
  1. Prepare. We confirm your tiles are suitable, mask skirting and doors, and rake out loose or dirty grout so the marble gum bonds into clean joints.
  2. Apply marble gum. The marble gum is tinted to your tile colour, mixed with hardener and pressed into every joint, then spread across the floor so nothing is missed.
  3. Grind flush. After curing, wet diamond grinding removes the excess and levels grout and tile into one flat plane.
  4. Polish. Progressively finer diamond pads polish the whole floor to a deep reflective shine. The floor is washed and handed over.

Marble gum grouting FAQ

What is marble gum grouting?

Marble gum is a resin-based grout that is coloured to match your tiles. It is pressed into the grout lines, left to cure, then ground flush and polished with the tiles so the joints almost disappear and the floor looks like a single marble surface.

How much does marble gum grouting cost?

Marble gum grouting with polishing is $4 per square foot. A 300 sq ft living and dining area is about $1,200; a fully tiled 4-room HDB flat of about 900 sq ft is about $3,600. Smaller areas are quoted from photos.

Can you match the colour of my tiles?

Yes. Marble gum is tinted on site to match your tile colour. For beige, grey and white homogeneous tiles we aim for a near-invisible joint.

Is marble gum slippery?

A polished floor is smooth like any high-gloss tile, and becomes slippery when wet. Keep it dry, use mats at entrances and the kitchen sink, and wipe spills quickly. We do not apply marble gum in bathrooms or other wet areas.

How long does marble gum last?

The marble gum in the joints is very durable and does not need replacing like cement grout. The gloss on top can be refreshed with a polish after a few years in high-traffic homes.

Can I do marble gum after my carpentry is installed?

Yes, we can work around fitted carpentry, but the best result is before carpentry and before move-in, when the whole floor is open.
